If you tried to book something at the Rough Hollow Yacht Club this month, you probably noticed two different things happening at once. Dinner is easy. The restaurant is open, the menu is different from what you remember, and the kitchen is clearly running at full speed. But if you went looking for the club's own events page to see what's on the calendar this fall, you likely found a note indicating that the events page is still a work in progress, with a single placeholder listed for a Grinch event in December.
The HOA and the Yacht Club are separate organizations, and they maintain separate calendars.
Two Organizations, One Marina
It helps to know that Rough Hollow's amenities are not one company wearing two hats. The HOA, managed through FirstService Residential, runs Highland Village: the lazy river, splash pad, pools, and the pavilion with its demonstration kitchen. That side of the community sends out regular Friday updates covering pool guest policies, kayak lottery deadlines, and a running list of what's happening that week, from stand-up comedy classes to end-of-school snow cone socials.
The Rough Hollow Yacht Club and Marina is a different entity entirely, privately owned and operated apart from the HOA. It runs the 294-plus boat and jet ski slips, the dual-car tram down to the water, the fuel dock, and the restaurant perched above it all. The club has its own small staff, a general manager, an administrative manager, an operations manager, and a director of membership and events, and its own separate events calendar.
Most of the year, both calendars run in parallel without anyone noticing the seam. This year, the two calendars show different levels of detail.
What Actually Changed at the Grille
As Community Impact reported, the restaurant most residents still call the Canyon Grille temporarily closed in April under a new owner. Haythem Dawlett, a developer who has also worked as a principal with Legend Communities on Rough Hollow and the coming Square at Lakeway, took over the space, closed it on April 6, and reopened it on April 14 with a new concept built around Central Texas farm-to-table cooking and Gulf Coast seafood sourced multiple times a week. Community Impact quoted Dawlett saying: "We are simply getting back to our roots."
That is a meaningful shift from what the restaurant used to be. For years it ran as a casual American grill, the kind of place you'd stop for a burger after a boat ride. The reimagined version, now branded as Canyon Grille & Bar, is built around a seasonal menu with ingredients pulled from Hill Country farms, and it is still reached the same way it always was, by a pair of funiculars carrying diners up from the marina to the dining room and patio.
If your last visit predates April, the food, the sourcing, and in some cases the staff are not the same restaurant you remember. That part of the transition is finished. The kitchen has been running under the new concept for five months now.
The Yacht Club's Published Events Calendar
The events side is a different story. The club's contact page and team page list different people as Director of Membership and Events. As of this writing, the club's public events page shows one dated listing for December.
That does not mean nothing is happening on the water side. Members still have access to the pool, the fitness center, and the marina's usual services. What is missing is the kind of published social calendar residents got used to: Wine Club nights, Ladies Night Luau, the concerts and mixers that used to show up weeks in advance. Right now, the HOA calendar lists more of that programming than the Yacht Club calendar.

- Current offerings: Highland Village pool and splash pad hours, HOA Friday email updates, pavilion rentals through the HOA, and dinner service at Canyon Grille & Bar
- Published Yacht Club listings: The Yacht Club's events calendar, which as of publication shows only one dated listing for December
- Worth checking directly: Membership events at the marina, since updates may appear there before they show up on the Yacht Club's events page

How to Actually Plan Around It
For most residents, the practical move this fall is simple: treat the HOA's Highland Village programming as your default calendar, and check in directly with the Yacht Club rather than relying on its events page if you're hoping for something specific, like a members' mixer or a live music night at the Grille. The restaurant itself is a safe bet for dinner any night it's open. The Yacht Club's published social calendar currently has fewer listings than the HOA calendar.
It's a useful reminder that Rough Hollow's amenities, marketed as one continuous resort experience, are actually run by different people with different reporting lines and different paces of change. Most years that distinction doesn't matter. This year, new ownership at the restaurant and different levels of detail on the two calendars make that distinction worth knowing when planning your week.
