Why Lakeway's Art Walk Studio Tour Starts at the City Archive on Lohmans Crossing

October 22, 2026

Nearly every arts event in Lakeway this fall happens on or next to Cross Creek. The Activity Center at 105 Cross Creek hosts a silent horror film with a live orchestra on Oct. 24 and a 17-piece big band on Nov. 9. The Hurst Creek Sculpture Garden is next door at 104 Cross Creek.

The 2026 Lakeway Art Walk is the one event that leaves that block. On Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8, the self-guided tour runs through private studios around the city, and printed maps and artist catalogs are handed out at the Lakeway Heritage Center, 963 Lohmans Crossing Road. That building is the city facility where Lakeway keeps its documents, photographs and memorabilia.

Three editions, three different weekends

The Lakeway Arts Committee created the Art Walk and has put it on a different weekend, in a different format, every year.

Year Dates What the weekend centered on
2024 April 19–21 The first Art Walk, with the Hurst Creek Sculpture Garden, the Hamilton Greenbelt and artist studios, plus visual art, performances and culinary artists
2025 Oct. 3–5 Studio tours Oct. 4–5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a free Sunday Masterpiece Concert at the Activity Center; the Oct. 3 kickoff party was cancelled
2026 Nov. 6–8 A Friday artist open house at TexARTS, then two days of self-guided studio tours

The first edition combined studios with public stops, so the greenbelt and the sculpture garden gave visitors places to go without an address in hand. The 2026 edition relies on studios and pop-ups. The 2026 Lakeway Art Walk page describes artist galleries, private studios and pop-up venues across Lakeway, showing paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photography and mixed-media work, with chances to meet the artists and buy their work. With private studios as the stops, the route can't be drawn until the organizers know which studios are taking part.

Why the map comes last

Artist registration for the 2026 Art Walk was set to close Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. Artists could either open their own studios or show together in a shared community venue, and the group space went first-come, first-served. The list of stops depends on that registration, which makes it the final piece of the weekend to be set.

In mid-October, the city's ArtWALK calendar entry still said locations and artists were coming soon. The Arts District page said digital maps would go online "this fall." The printed version is the one with a fixed location. The page tells visitors to start at the Heritage Center to pick up official studio maps and artist catalogs.

The Lakeway Arts District's summer calendar lists the Nov. 7–8 tour as free. The city's event entry doesn't mention admission either way. Questions about the weekend go to the Lakeway Arts Committee at [email protected], the contact the organizers publish.

The run on Cross Creek, before and after

The studio weekend sits in the middle of a longer stretch of events on Cross Creek and at TexARTS. Here is that stretch in order:

  • Saturday, Oct. 24, 7–9 p.m. The city's Nosferatu "A Symphony of Horror" screening at the Activity Center marks the film's 104th anniversary. The silent film plays while the Lake Travis Chamber Orchestra performs the score live. Tickets are $7, concession sales support the Lake Travis High School Chamber Orchestra, and the city's listing encourages vampire costumes.
  • Friday, Nov. 6. The Art Walk weekend opens with an artist open house at TexARTS Theatre & Academy, 1110 RM 620 S., with a social at 6 p.m. and a performance at 7 p.m. The organizers haven't announced the performance title.
  • Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7–8, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Self-guided studio tours, starting from the Heritage Center.
  • Monday, Nov. 9, 7–9 p.m. The Lakeway Arts Committee's Big Band Bash at the Activity Center features the 17-piece Republic of Texas Big Band with David Cummings on vocals. It's free and open to all ages. Bring your own drinks and snacks. The band takes donations after the show.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m. The city's Veterans Day Ceremony takes place at Lakeway Resort & Spa, 101 Lakeway Drive. City offices are closed that day.
  • Dec. 4–20. TexARTS stages Winter Wonderettes, according to the Lakeway Arts District's Autumn 2026 newsletter.

Earlier this season the same pattern held. Buffaloe and the Heard played a free show in the Hurst Creek Sculpture Garden on Sept. 18, and the Arts in the Afternoon Masterpiece Concert filled the Activity Center on Oct. 4. Through September and October, Lakeway's arts events stayed on a single block, and the studio tour is the weekend that spreads beyond it.

Saturday, Nov. 7, has two draws in two places

The Saturday of the Art Walk is also the day of the City-Wide Indoor Garage Sale, held at the Activity Center from 8 a.m. to noon. The studio tour opens at 10 a.m., and its maps are on Lohmans Crossing, so the two events overlap for two hours in different parts of town. Here is one way to fit both into the day:

  1. Start at the garage sale on Cross Creek when it opens at 8 a.m.
  2. Drive to the Heritage Center at 963 Lohmans Crossing around 10 a.m. to pick up the studio map and catalog as the tour opens.
  3. Spend the rest of the day on studios until the 4 p.m. close, and leave Sunday, which has the same hours, for anything you missed.
  4. Come back to the Activity Center on Monday evening for the Big Band Bash.

If the digital map has gone online by then, you can plan Saturday's route from home. The Heritage Center is still the published starting point, and it is the one place the organizers have said the catalogs will be.

The stop that is open every day

The one Art Walk stop that doesn't depend on a map dates to 2024. The Hurst Creek Sculpture Garden at 104 Cross Creek is near the City Hall trail. It also appears on the Lakeway Arts District's outdoor art map, which lists public pieces around town that you can see on any day of the year. It's a short walk from the Activity Center, so you can stop there before the Oct. 24 screening or the Nov. 9 concert.
